From our job notes
Traralgon: Mt Tassie and LTE filters
Traralgon looks due south to Mt Tassie, the Latrobe Valley's main transmitter about 22 km away, which broadcasts UHF with horizontal polarisation at very high power. Most Traralgon homes need a UHF antenna aimed south toward the Strzelecki Ranges — a Melbourne-style VHF antenna will not do the job.
Mobile towers are the Traralgon twist. 4G and 5G signals near the low end of the UHF band can overload TV amplifiers, causing pixelation that looks like a weak signal. We have fitted LTE filters on Traralgon jobs where the meter showed that was the cause — it is a cheap fix once identified.
Traralgon transmitter options
Valley floors are often in partial shadow from the surrounding hills, so Traralgon homes on rising ground can see one transmitter while those lower down rely on another. When a household moves the antenna or replaces it like-for-like, it is easy to end up pointed at the weaker option without realising.

The signal's route to Traralgon
Few mapped suburbs sit on the direct line from Traralgon to Mt Tassie (22 km at 170°), so the obstacles that matter are the ones closest to your antenna.
Practical tip: stand where your antenna is and face south. If you can see a big tree, a new two-storey house or a hill within a few hundred metres, that is the first suspect.
Traralgon homes and their antennas
New estates on the edge of Traralgon have the same builder-antenna issues as Melbourne's growth suburbs: small antennas mounted low. A correctly sized antenna aimed with a meter fixes it.
Common Traralgon call-outs
- Antenna pointed at the weaker of two transmitters

Traralgon: quick answers
Do you install LTE/5G filters?
Yes. Near mobile towers, 4G/5G signals can overload TV amplifiers. A filter fixes it when the meter shows that is the cause.
Why is my picture worse on foggy mornings?
Wet antennas and cable lose a little signal. If your system has no margin, that is enough to cause dropouts. Better gain or a cable fix restores it.
Can you set up TVs for a club or pub?
Yes — multi-screen distribution with proper amplification, and LTE filtering where needed.
