Mt Tassie country
The Latrobe Valley takes its TV from Mt Tassie, high in the Strzelecki Ranges south of Traralgon. The site broadcasts the regional Victorian networks on UHF channels 28, 29, 30, 31 and 33 with horizontal polarisation at up to 400 kW — one of the most powerful transmitters in the state. Traralgon looks due south to it at about 22 kilometres; Morwell looks south-east at about 23.
With that much power close by, most valley homes need a compact-to-medium UHF antenna, mounted horizontally and aimed at the Strzeleckis. Melbourne-style VHF antennas, which some older homes still carry, are the wrong tool here.
Local repeaters
Hills around the valley shadow some towns, so local repeaters fill the gaps. Churchill has its own repeater on UHF with horizontal polarisation; Moe and Newborough are served by the Moe repeater, also UHF horizontal. Homes on the high side of these towns may do better with Mt Tassie direct; those lower down rely on the repeater. We meter both before deciding.
4G and 5G interference
Mobile networks are the Latrobe Valley's particular problem. 4G and 5G signals near the bottom of the UHF band can overload TV amplifiers, producing pixelation that looks like a weak signal even when the TV signal is strong. We have fitted LTE filters on Traralgon and Morwell jobs where the meter showed that was the cause. It is a cheap, permanent fix once identified.
Homes, estates and acreage
Older Morwell, Moe and Traralgon homes carry original antennas and cabling, often installed for analogue channels decades ago. New estates around Traralgon East and Tyers have builder antennas and pre-wiring problems. Rural blocks toward Yinnar, Hazelwood and the Strzeleckis add long cable runs to sheds. We handle all of them with a meter reading, a fixed price and sealed, solid installations.
Repairs start from $98, the call-out is $0 when you go ahead, you save $120 on a new antenna install, and pensioners, seniors and DVA card holders get a discount.
Latrobe Valley by the numbers
We cover 17 suburbs and localities in Latrobe Valley. Distances to the main transmitter range from 12 km (Jeeralang) to 36 km (Moe). Across the region, the sites worth metering are: Mt Tassie (Latrobe Valley) (17 suburbs), Moe repeater (Newborough) (4 suburbs) and Churchill repeater (3 suburbs).
By housing and terrain, the region breaks down as 13 regional town & valley and 4 rural acreage fringe — which is why one standard antenna does not suit every street.

Latrobe Valley: quick answers
Which way should a Traralgon antenna point?
Due south to Mt Tassie, about 22 km away, with a UHF antenna mounted horizontally.
Why is my picture blocky near a phone tower?
4G/5G signals can overload TV amplifiers. An LTE filter fixes it when the meter confirms the cause.
Do Moe and Churchill have their own repeaters?
Yes — both on UHF with horizontal polarisation. Whether the repeater or Mt Tassie direct is better depends on your street.
Do you service Morwell and Moe?
Yes, along with Traralgon, Newborough, Churchill, Tyers and surrounding rural properties.
