What a Montmorency install needs
Montmorency has one realistic source, Mt Dandenong, so the job is about gain, height and a precise aim at 123°.
Montmorency at a glance
Mt Dandenong: 24 km at 123° (east-south-east), VHF horizontal. Most likely: a compact VHF/UHF combination antenna.
Montmorency to Mt Dandenong: the path
Between Montmorency and Mt Dandenong lie Park Orchards, Warranwood and Croydon. Any tall building, ridge or tree line along that 24 km line affects what your antenna receives.
The compass bearing (123°) is where we start. The final aim comes from the meter, which shows the strongest, cleanest lock on every channel.
Reading the hills around Montmorency
Mt Dandenong is 24 km from Montmorency at 123° (east-south-east). On paper that is close, but hills and ridgelines between here and there cast radio shadows, and tall eucalypts absorb signal — more when they are wet. A house on the high side of a street may lock every channel while one in the gully below gets nothing on the same antenna.
