What a Mount Evelyn install needs
Mount Evelyn has one realistic source, Mt Dandenong, so the job is about gain, height and a precise aim at 211°.
Mount Evelyn at a glance
Mt Dandenong: 7.3 km at 211° (south-south-west), VHF horizontal. Most likely: a compact VHF/UHF combination antenna.
Mount Evelyn to Mt Dandenong: the path
Few mapped suburbs sit on the direct line from Mount Evelyn to Mt Dandenong (7.3 km at 211°), so the obstacles that matter are the ones closest to your antenna.
The compass bearing (211°) is where we start. The final aim comes from the meter, which shows the strongest, cleanest lock on every channel.
Reading the hills around Mount Evelyn
Trees grow; antennas don't. A lot of Mount Evelyn installs worked when they went up and have slowly degraded as the canopy closed in. Raising the antenna on a taller mast, or moving it to the other side of the roof, often restores a path that has been fading for years.
