Why Greensborough TVs lose channels
If a retune does not fix it, the signal is the problem. We meter at the wall plate — in Greensborough, Mt Dandenong should arrive on VHF 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12 (plus UHF 32 for C31) — and tell you whether it is the antenna or the TV.
Before we start in Greensborough
Mt Dandenong: 26 km at 124° (south-east), VHF horizontal. Expect a compact VHF/UHF combination antenna, confirmed by meter on the day.
The signal's route to Greensborough
Signal from Mt Dandenong travels 26 km to reach Greensborough, passing over Briar Hill (1.3 km out), Montmorency (2.6 km out), Park Orchards (13 km out), Warranwood (15 km out) and Croydon (19 km out) on the way.
When we aim a Greensborough antenna we start at 124° and then peak it on the meter, because reflections can make the best direction a few degrees off the map bearing.
Greensborough's signal path
Mt Dandenong is 26 km from Greensborough, bearing 124° (south-east). It transmits VHF with horizontal polarisation, so the antenna needs proper VHF elements — the long ones — not a UHF-only antenna. At this distance the field strength is comfortable, and most faults we find are mechanical: water in a join, a corroded balun, or an antenna turned by wind.
