Why Keysborough TVs lose channels
If a retune does not fix it, the signal is the problem. We meter at the wall plate — in Keysborough, Mt Dandenong should arrive on VHF 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12 (plus UHF 32 for C31) — and tell you whether it is the antenna or the TV.
Before we start in Keysborough
Mt Dandenong: 24 km at 40° (north-east), VHF horizontal. Expect a compact VHF/UHF combination antenna, confirmed by meter on the day.
The signal's route to Keysborough
Signal from Mt Dandenong travels 24 km to reach Keysborough, passing over Dunearn (4.9 km out), Dandenong North (5.9 km out), Rowville (11 km out), Tremont (19 km out), The Basin (21 km out) and Mount Dandenong (23 km out) on the way.
When we aim a Keysborough antenna we start at 40° and then peak it on the meter, because reflections can make the best direction a few degrees off the map bearing.
Keysborough's signal path
At 24 km from Mt Dandenong, Keysborough sits well inside the main coverage area. A mid-gain combination antenna, aimed at about 40°, should hold every channel in any weather. If yours doesn't, the meter tells us whether the signal is weak at the antenna (alignment, damage, obstruction) or being lost on the way down (cable, splitters, wall plates).
