Why Eltham North TVs lose channels
Some TVs in Eltham North keep losing channels after software updates. We check the tuner settings, disable automatic channel updates where they cause trouble, and confirm the signal is solid.
Where Eltham North's signal comes from
Mt Dandenong: 24 km at 130° (south-east), VHF horizontal. For this address we'd usually fit a compact VHF/UHF combination antenna.
The signal's route to Eltham North
Signal from Mt Dandenong travels 24 km to reach Eltham North, passing over Eltham (2.2 km out), Warrandyte (8.2 km out), Warrandyte South (11 km out), Warranwood (13 km out), Croydon Hills (14 km out), Croydon (16 km out) and Kilsyth (19 km out) on the way.
When we aim a Eltham North antenna we start at 130° and then peak it on the meter, because reflections can make the best direction a few degrees off the map bearing.
Reading the hills around Eltham North
Trees grow; antennas don't. A lot of Eltham North installs worked when they went up and have slowly degraded as the canopy closed in. Raising the antenna on a taller mast, or moving it to the other side of the roof, often restores a path that has been fading for years.
